Put on Eyeshadow Like a Make Up Artist
Do you know how to apply eyeshadow to make your eye stand out? I’m not just rambling about putting on color on your eye lids and calling it a day. I must admit I am guilty of this occasionally. When you’re making preparations for work early in the a.m.. do you actually have the time to go “makeup artist” on yourself? Probably not…but sometimes you like to really make up your eyes, whether it be for a social gathering, special event, or date. We can get a little stale in our makeup usage at times. For many years, I always followed the very same regimen for my eyes: use a light colored shadow on the entire lid. Then use a darker colour in the crease. Finished. It’s really easy, but I had to have some thing a little more breathtaking and unique. I recently went to my hair salon, Capella Salon to get my hair cut and had the ability to to sit and have a chat with makeup artist, Carly Jacuzzo. She gave me some fantastic recommendations on how to apply eyeshadow like a professional and a couple more ideas I am going to pass on to you in this article.
Initially, when using make-up make sure it’s a unhazardous product, free of parabens, talc, mineral oil, and other dangerous chemicals. Capello is now selling a superb line of mineral cosmetics called La Bella Donna. Doesn’t that name sound lavish? The products are just as sumptuous as the name denotes. While my hair was developing Carly applied my makeup as if my face was a empty canvas and she was the “great artist”! I truly love the method she used on my eyes and currently I will share it with you (it’s quite simple really):
1. Utilize a light colored hue to the entire lid up to the eyebrow line. She used a shiny light brown color.
2. Apply a tint in a tad of a darker shade than the one you already used in the middle part of the eye. Ensure to integrate using a top quality makeup brush.
3. Opt for a dark tone for this step. Carly used a gorgeous dark brown. From the median of your eyelid crease to the corner of your eye and down toward the eyelash line, sweep the brush in a v shape. This absolutely makes the eyes look special! Blend in, of course. Simply put, you’re applying colors from light to dark as you go from the inner eye to the outer.
4. As a last step, you can line the eyes either with eyeliner pencil, or as Carly did, with an even darker shade of mineral shadow. She used a dark grey, (almost black) to line the top and a little bit of the underside of my lash line.
So right now you can do your eye makeup just like a pro! She also offered some additional pointers which I’ve been using ever since and I am positive you’ll like.
Bonus tip #1- To apply color, you can use the similiar “v” technique used for the eyes. Apply blush in a V shape from the top of your cheekbones to the inner part of the cheek to the lower part of the cheek.
Bonus tip #2- When doing your makeup, apply a bit of tape (just plain masking tape) to the side of your brow line to the bottom of your eye lid for perfect eye makeup!
Bonus tip #3- All the time do your eye makeup first, then do your face, that way any blunders can be very easily cleaned up without messing up your face makeup.
Bonus tip #4- This one was because of a question sent in by one of my readers. She asked, “What do you do when a pimple pops up right when you have an evening out or important party?” Carly stated a lot of people do the improper thing which makes the pimple jump out even more and we really don’t want that! As an alternative to applying concealer then powder, do this instead: apply foundation first! Then apply concealer and powder. Many girls do the concealer first, but it ultimately ends up accentuating the pimple. Do it the opposite way to cover up that bad boy!
Bonus tip #5- This one isn’t from the makeup artist…it’s from me and pertains to makeup organization rather than application. Actually, it’s from my aunt…when I was calling on her, I spotted how she stored her makeup and I loved the idea. She got one of those mini 3 drawer storage canisters and all her make up were so in order! She motivated me so much that I went and got one last week (on sale!) at Target. It’s far better than throwing the whole lot in a bag, not being able to uncover anything, and having it all covered with eye makeup. If you have a huge cosmetic set, you can get the larger storage units.
Many times I have wished I had access to a makeup artist to ask her all the burning questions I have about makeup application. I felt so appreciative to the pleasure to talk to Carly during my hair appointment. She did a wonderful job on my makeup when I was there, but she made me recognize that if I used her ideas, I can do it myself too. If you use her effortless tips and tricks, you can apply eyeshadow, blush, and other types of makeup with ease. Just after my makeup and hair was finalized, I adored how the foundation looked so much that I ended up buying it. I don’t generally use a large amount of foundation, but this powder gave me a finished, yet natural look. It was La Bella Donna pressed minerals in Marianna and believe it or not, it appeared as fresh later on as it did when Carly put it on me. If you’re looking for a hair stylist (that’s Debbie Caruso, owner of Capello) or a brilliant makeup artist, please go to Capello Salon. Oh, yes, and be sure to tell them Robin sent you!
